One of the best parts about living in NYC is the city’s proximity to the Hudson Valley, a region north of Manhattan filled with scenic mountains and quaint small towns.  Queens based couple Abby and Marat are serious outdoors lovers and share my passion for hiking and exploring the New York region (they even have a blog about hiking!).  We first met for their engagement session on a frosty late fall morning near Bear Mountain, where we took photos overlooking the mountains as the sun rose.

Abby and Marat knew they wanted to bring their love for the outdoors into their wedding day, while still including some of the more traditional elements of a wedding ceremony and reception.  Hudson Valley venue, The Garrison, proved to be the perfect place to balance these two factors.  The couple’s The Garrison wedding was held on a beautiful fall afternoon in the mountains.  My favorite part of the day was their gorgeous Jewish ceremony, where the couple exchanged rings under a massive white-rose chuppah, designed by Sunshine Flowers.

We had the opportunity to take lots of epic photos with the mountains in the backdrop, a fun change from both my and the couple’s day to day of city living. The evening was rounded out by a wild dance party which incorporated some of the couple’s Russian heritage into the music and traditions.  The best part about The Garrison is the venue’s massive windows that overlook the Hudson Valley mountains, so Abby and Marat and all of their guests got to immerse themselves in the epic views throughout the entire day!
