Laura and Derek’s Bedford Post Inn wedding will always be one of my favorites, both because it was a gorgeous, flawlessly executed event and because these two are now dear friends.   It all began on a chilly fall afternoon in Manhattan, when I Derek hired me to (sneakily) photography his proposal to Laura.  After telling her to dress up for a fancy dinner, he brought her out to their building’s rooftop and asked her to marry him.  After that, he surprised his new fiancée again by taking her to dinner at their favorite restaurant, NoMad, where their family (and I) were waiting to surprise her for a congratulatory dinner!  Check out those epic rooftop photos here.

After a fun Tribeca engagement session a few months later (see those photos here), it was finally time for the wedding day!  Laura and Derek had chosen the charming Bedford Post Inn, located in a sleepy town just an hour outside Manhattan, which has quickly become one of my favorite wedding venues.  The inn served as the perfect spot for their elegant but intimate wedding, which was planned by True Event with gorgeous florals by one of my favorite florists, Hana Floral.  My favorite décor element was the colorful escort card table floral centerpiece, complete with bright pink peonies and persimmons for a creative take on fall florals.  The inn’s dining room served as the perfect romantic dinner spot and a tented patio transformed into a wild dance floor to the sounds of The Blake Band.

This couple was so fun to work with – trusting in the process and allowing me and my friend McKenzie Miller Films to really do our best work.  My favorite part of the day was the most unplanned – on the way back from the church, we stumbled upon a quaint barn with the most iconic American flag hanging on the door.  We quickly pulled over the car and all jumped out to create a few unplanned portraits right on the side of the road.  The late afternoon light created the perfect soft ambiance and we took some of the best images from the day!

Since their wedding (which I had somehow never blogged until now – hello busy life of a small business owner!), I’ve been lucky enough to photograph three of their family member’s weddings as well as baby photos of their Laura and Derek’s little newest addition, Kevin.
