Tips for making a great album that tells the full story of your wedding:
- Select a scene setting image of the venue or general location to create a sense of place.
- Select 3-4 images of apparel and invitation details.
- Select 4-6 images each of the bride(s) and/or groom(s) getting ready.
- Select 8-10 portraits of the bride(s) and/or groom(s) together from different locations, varying backdrops and a mix of focal lengths (some full length, some tighter).
- Select 4-6 photos of the wedding party. Try to keep the selection of groomsmen photos and bridesmaid photos equal in number, when applicable. I don’t recommend including individual photos of each bridesmaid or groomsman, but sticking to group shots instead.
- For family photos, try to limit repetition and just include key combinations, without excluding any important family members. Ideally include either all full-length or all half-length photos for a more consistent look.
- For the ceremony, think about the storyline and be sure to include key elements. For most weddings, I recommend including a photo of the bride(s) walking in (when applicable), a photo of the groom(s) reacting (when applicable), a wide photo of the ceremony scene, 2-3 close up photos of the vows and the ring exchange, a photo of the kiss and a photo of the recessional. You can also consider including photos of parents watching or of key speakers.
- For cocktail hour, I recommend either including no photos, or including at least 4-8, so they can make up an entire page.
- For décor, include a photo of the overall reception space, as well as 3-6 photos of the floral centerpieces, table place settings or other design elements.
- For the reception, again be sure to include key moments, including the first dance, parent dances, each person giving a toast, the bride(s) and/or groom(s) reacting to toasts, and the cake cutting (as well as other key moments that may pertain to your wedding specifically). Then include your favorite photos of guests having fun!
