Art lovers Kelsey and Rob had their Michener Art Museum wedding in one of Pennsylvania’s premier art establishments.  The Michener Art Museum, established in 1988 and located in Doylestown, serves as the home to much of Pennsylvania’s modern art, as well as a venue for weddings.  The space used to be a prison but was converted into an art museum as a way of reclaiming the space for more positive use.  I loved photographing in this funky space – incorporating both the unique building structure and the modern outdoor sculptures into the portraits of the bride and groom.

Kelsey and Rob began the day at the neighboring Doylestown Inn, a landmark building dating back to 1871 which serves as a cultural hub along the main avenue in the quaint city.  They then headed over to the museum for their first look, which they chose to do in front of the old stone walls surrounding entrance.  We had a blast exploring the sculpture garden grounds and taking photos along the way!  The couple then said their vows in the courtyard of the museum – right in front of a gorgeous metal wall sculpture depicting a family embracing (just a little symbolism that I loved).

We then all headed into the glass walled events pavilion for dinner and dancing, which Valley Green Flowers had elegantly decorated with lots of candles to create a lovely ambiance.  This space was a particular lighting challenge (with almost no natural light and lots of dark glass windows to reflect back a flash), but we embraced the challenge and shot with lots of ambient light to enhance the feel of the dimly lit space.  After an epic dance party, it was time to head back to New York.  Thanks K&R for having us along!
